The Busua Beach Resort in the Western Region has been disconnected from the National Grid after failing to pay the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) a debt of Gh¢1.135,000.

This was confirmed by the Western Region Public Relations Officer of ECG, Benjamin Quarcoe in an interview on Skyy Power FM in Takoradi.

This forms part of the ECG nationwide debt collection exercise in a bid to mobilise revenue.

He said some businesses took action to settle their debt after they made the announcement on March 20 while others made partial payments, but the amount they have accumulated thus far is not encouraging.

He said, “Most of the companies who got disconnected have paid their monies. We looking forward to see companies who are yet to get disconnected to walk to our offices and make payment but they did not, the reason we are on the field to take this action.”

Mr Quarcoe revealed among other institutions in the Western Region disconnected is the Takoradi Technical University.

He said the University has failed to settle a debt of Gh¢1.3million hence the decision to cut off power supply.

“We were expecting institutions and individuals to make payment when the nationwide debt collection exercise began. Some have complied and made part payments but others have decided not to.

“This morning we came to Takoradi Technical University (TTU) and we had no other option than to disconnect their electricity. They are owing us 1.3 million Ghana Cedis so as we speak, they don’t have electricity. If they should pay us, we shall reconnect them”, he said.
