A second attempt to confirm Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso Central ended in chaos after a protest by aggrieved supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) disrupted the proceedings.
The incident occurred in Kotobabi, where a group of demonstrators dismantled canopies, chairs, and even the voting booth, forcing officials to suspend the confirmation process.
Collingwoode-Williams failed to secure confirmation on April 30, 2025, receiving only six out of 17 votes from the assembly members, far short of the threshold required for approval.

Tensions intensified ahead of the second vote, with supporters of the NDC’s Ayawaso Central Constituency Chairman, Harry Otu, demanding that he be nominated instead. They asserted that Otu is the rightful candidate and warned that continued disregard for their choice could lead to further unrest.
The disruption has sparked concerns about deepening internal divisions within the party and the broader politicisation of local government appointments. Authorities have not yet announced a new date for the rescheduled vote.
