The National Democratic Congress has declared Mr John Mahama as the winner of their flag bearer race. Mr John Mahama, the former president, obtained a staggering 98.9% of the total valid votes cast, with a total of 297,603 votes.
In contrast, his only opponent, Mr Kojo Bonsu, received a mere 1.1% or 3,181 votes. Mr Bonsu was gracious in defeat, calling Mr John Mahama to congratulate him even before the electoral commission officially announced the results. Unfortunately, 4,353 ballots were rejected.
As a result of his victory, Mr Mahama will be the flag bearer of the NDC in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
However, a third candidate, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, withdrew from the race at the last minute, citing “blatant irregularities.” The parliamentary and presidential primaries were held on May 13th, 2023.
