Burkinabe coach Seydou Zerbo has been hired as Asante Kotoko’s substantive coach.
Zerbo, who formerly led Burkina Faso’s national team, joins Kotoko on a one-year contract with the option of a second year.
The 59-year-old has previously coached SONABEL, ASFA Yennenga, and Rail Club du Kadiogo, all of whom Kotoko will meet in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
He was also in charge of the Burkina Faso squad that defeated Ghana in the CHAN Qualifiers in 2019. The Stallions, on the other hand, did not go past the group rounds of the competition in Cameroon.
Asaase Sports can confirm that the 59-year-old is already in Ghana and will go with the club to Sudan to complete Kotoko’s pre-season training.
Seydou Zerbo’s first assignment will be to lead the club through the second portion of their pre-season in Sudan, where they will play a friendly match against Al Hilal. as they prepare for the next season
His first competitive game however, will be against Accra Hearts of Oak in the Champion of Champions on Sunday, September 5, 2022.
That will be followed by the CAF Champions League tie against Burkina Faso’s Rail Club du Kadiogo, the club he started his coaching career with in 2013, a week later.
