Ghana Expecting 1.2m Doses of Pfizer Vaccines – Dr. Nsiah Asare

Presidential Advicer on health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare reveals that Ghana is expecting about 1.2million doses of the Pfizer vaccines.

According to the Doctor, the Pfizer vaccine has been approved by the Food and Drug board authority for emergency use with four others.

He also said that, the arrival and recieval of the vaccines will drive the country to begin the second deployment phase of the vaccination plan.

Dr. Nsiah explained that, preparations are in order to receive the Pfizer vaccine with a freezer that would help to store the doses.

“Through the US government, President Joe Biden has recently given African Union about 10 million doses of Pfizer and 5 million doses of Johnson and Johnson. I am also happy to say Ghana will receiving about 1.2 million of Pfizer vaccine soon.”

“We have ultra cold freezers which can store these vaccines. Luckily, the drone distribution centers also have minus 80 degrees fridges and they are helping us to also distribute these vaccines to three rural areas. So we can now receive Pfizer to distribute” he said.

Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare also pointed that, as of July 5, about 864,964 Ghanaians had received doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and out of that, 400,343 people had received two doses while 464,623 had only received one dose.

He also disclosed that, there has been new research that shows that people with only one dose of the vaccine are not in any danger.

“However the government is working to ensure that people with only one dose are able to receive their second dose.

“We are working round the clock to get another few doses of AstraZeneca to be able to complete the first deployment phase we made. About 464 thousand people are to be vaccinated and hopefully, we will get more from all the other sources that we have put in place”.he said.

“The Johnson and Johnson and Moderna vaccines have been also approved for emergency use” Dr. Nsiah added.
However, he urged Ghanaians to consistently adhere to the safety protocols while government continue to ensure the vaccines are available for everyone.
