The Municipal Police Commander in the Amenfi East municipality of the western region, D.S.P. Simon Setorglo pleads with drivers to be careful as the year is about to end.
He pointed out that, drivers should limit speeding and wrongful overtaken.
“If a driver wants to over take another vehicle, he should check broken lines and be sure if the other vehicle is not coming with a speed,” he said.
He also urged drivers of the municipality to avoid alcoholic drinks while or before driving.
” Drink driving is a bad practice. As a driver don’t drink alcohol before driving. Just be focused on the road to reach destinations safely” he lameted.
D.S.P. Simon Setorglo disclosed this to the media following series of road accident cases recorded in the first and second quarter of the year by the Motor traffic and transport department ( MTTD) of the Ghana Police service.
According to the report, 19 accident cases were recorded in the first quarter of 2021.
Number of vehicles involved in accidents are as follows; two big passenger buses, one mini bus, one cargo truck, two taxis, one saloon car, one government vehicle and two (4×4) vehicles.
Number of accident cases recorded in the first quarter indicates; 19. 9 fatal cases, two serious, and eightminor cases. In the second quarter of the year, the police motor traffic transport department (MTTD) recorded 13 accident cases, four fatal, four serious and four minor cases.
Total accident cases in the second quarter is 13, DSP Simon Setorglo disclosed report about the road accidents in the area .
He added that, vehicle owners shouldn’t give their vehicles to unqualified drivers.
“Car owners shouldn’t give their vehicles to unqualified drivers. Others who have lincense yet, not experienced in driving shouldn’t be given the mandate to drive,” he informed.
He further advice drivers to check their tyres and engine before setting on the roads.
” Drivers should check their tyres, engine and make sure the vehicle is road with,” he said.
