The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has categorically refuted allegations of interference by officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the selection process of players for the senior national team, Black Stars.

In an exclusive interview with Asempa FM, he vehemently dismissed these baseless claims, stating that his Ministry conducted a thorough investigation and found no concrete evidence of any meddling from the football association.

The minister emphasized, “During my time as Minister, none of the coaches I have met has reported any interference from the Ghana FA regarding player selection.”

The issue of alleged interference has been an ongoing concern in Ghanaian football, with former Black Stars head coach, Charles Akonnor, having previously disclosed the reality of such interference in player selection.

Despite the Ghana FA consistently denying these claims, suspicions and rumors among the Ghanaian public have cast doubts on the fairness and transparency of the national team’s call-ups.

Nevertheless, the Sports Minister remained firm in his position, stressing the importance of tangible evidence to effectively address the matter. He asserted, “If there is no evidence, then it makes things difficult, but yes, these are things that we hear about.”

The controversy surrounding player selection has been a matter of concern for football enthusiasts, and the lack of transparency in some national team call-ups has significantly impacted public perception.
