Medeama SC to play Nigerian side Remo Stars in first preliminary round

Medeama SC, the champions of the Ghana Premier League, are scheduled to face off against Remo Stars, a Nigerian side, in the opening preliminary round of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

Having emerged as the champions of the Ghana Premier League last season, Medeama SC will proudly represent the country in the prestigious African football arena.

The first leg of the tie between Medeama SC and Remo Stars will be held at the Cape Coast Stadium, with Medeama SC hosting the match, followed by their journey to Nigeria for the second leg.

The initial round of the preliminary matches is scheduled to take place from 18th to 20th August for the first-leg encounters, and from 25th to 27th August for the second-leg clashes.

Subsequently, the second preliminary round will occur from 15th to 17th September for the first leg matches, and the return fixtures are set between 19th September and 1st October.

This marks the Tarkwa-based club’s debut in the elite football competition, having previously participated in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2014 and 2017.

Medeama SC’s most recent involvement in CAF inter-club competitions was in 2016, where they advanced to the group stages after defeating South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the playoff.

The victor of this tie will confront Guinean giants Horoya AC in the second preliminary round, and the ultimate winner will secure a spot in the group stage.
