James Gyakye Quayson wins Assin North by-election

James Gyakye Quayson, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emerged victorious in Tuesday’s by-election in Assin North, according to official results released by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).

James Gyakye Quayson secured 17,245 of the valid votes cast, defeating Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) to reclaim the seat.

Compared to the 2020 results, Quayson‘s vote margin increased by over 1,300. In the previous election, he garnered 17,498 votes, beating NPP’s Abena Durowaa Mensah, who managed to amass 14,193 votes.

The by-election win marks a significant political victory for Quayson, who was previously declared invalidly elected in 2020 by a Supreme Court ruling. With his latest electoral triumph, James Gyakye Quayson is set to return to Parliament to represent Assin North.
