Former Minister for Education, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi appointed as Board Chairman for Public Procurement Authority urged all tertiary institutions in Ghana to introduce entrepreneurship as a program of study.
He pointed out that, students are more focused on courses that make them depend on government for employment after completing school which shouldn’t be so.
According to the Professor, it is time for tertiary students to realize that hundreds of thousands of graduates are produced yearly but the job opportunities are limited however, one should be able to be productive with the knowledge acquired in school after completion instead of expecting employment from the government.
” After they complete School, finding job is difficult so this opportunity will help graduates to be self-employed” he said.
The Professor said this, when he spoke during the SRC Week celebration of the Valley View University (VVU) Techiman campus, under the theme, “the role of universities in fostering entrepreneurship to mitigate unemployment”.
The SRC President for the institution, Master Kingsley Kwarteng expressed his gratitude to the school administration for preparing them towards entrepreneurship and pledged not to become burden to government but will put whatever they have learnt to practice.
” We are grateful to the school administration for giving us such opportunity to prepare us towards entrepreneurship. We put whatever we’ve learnt today in practice so we can be productive in the country,” the SRC President said.
