Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a well-known Ghanaian lawyer and political analyst, is gaining attention online for calling on Ghanaians to respect Ga traditions during their annual noisemaking ban.

In a bold Facebook post shared on Sunday, he reminded people living on Ga land to follow the rules during this cultural period. “If you are on Ga land and they say this is a seasonal period of no noise-making (as in drumming etc.), please respect that,” he wrote. He ended with a sharp comment: “After all, God hears silent prayers. If you disagree, please relocate! #RespectYourLandlord.”

The noisemaking ban is part of preparations for the Ga people’s Homowo Festival. It’s a sacred time for peace, cleansing, and spiritual reflection. The ban typically lasts one month and covers loud activities, including drumming and other forms of public noise.

Otchere-Darko’s post sparked mixed reactions. Some praised him for standing up for local customs, while others felt he could have delivered the message in a calmer tone.

Each year, the Ga Traditional Council reminds churches and residents to comply with the rules. In some cases, law enforcement has stepped in to ensure quiet is maintained.

Otchere-Darko, known for speaking strongly on national and cultural matters, has now joined the ongoing conversation. His message highlights the importance of respecting local customs in a city like Accra, where many cultures and beliefs exist side by side.
