Abdul Mumin Issah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Sekondi-Takoradi, has been suspended by President Akufo-Addo for reportedly attacking a police officer.
On February 2, 2022, police apprehended Mr Mumin Issah after he verbally assaulted a police officer and drove recklessly.
The MCE, who was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, is accused of driving recklessly and dangerously while approaching a police snap checkpoint at the Kwesimintsim cemetery on Wednesday, January 2, 2022, according to the police.
When a police officer tried to stop him, the MCE verbally abused and threatened the officer.
Mr Abdul Mumin Issah has been suspended with immediate effect, according to a release from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development.
While Mr Mumin Issah is being investigated by the police, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has been entrusted to take over as MCE.
Meanwhile, Mr Mumin Issah has been charged with assaulting a police officer, offensive behaviour conducive to breaches of peace, and disturbing the peace in a public place, all in violation of sections 205, 208, and 298 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.
In addition, the MCE has been charged with reckless driving in violation of Section 1 of Act 683 of 2004, as modified by Act 761 of 2008 and will be arraigned before the court on Friday, February 4, 2022.
