A Yutong bus carrying 45 passengers yesterday caught fire, burning into ashes.

The bus with registration number GT 5333-20, was travelling from Takoradi to Kumasi, when the incident occurred at Kyekyewere, a community in the Assin South in the Central Region.

According to the accounts by driver and passengers who were on board the bus, they sniffed the scent of smoke and suspected it was coming from the bus.

The driver then stopped and asked passengers on board to come down to allow him to examine what was the cause.

They said, moments after the driver pulled out his fire extinguisher to quench the fire, the bus exploded into flame and subsequently burnt into ashes.

Speaking to the media after their narrow escape, some passengers thanked the driver for saving their lives by stopping and asking them to get off the bus.

“Thanks to the driver for telling us to get out. But for his timely decision to let us get down from the bus, we would have been affected by the fire”, some of the passengers told the media.
