Individuals who utilize commercial transportation will see at least a 30% rise in rates commencing September 21, 2022.

“We desire to advise the general public, in cooperation with our mother organization, the GPRTU of TUC, that there will be a 30% hike in tariffs beginning September 21, 2022,” the public transportation unions stated in a joint statement.

The statement was issued by the Concerned Drivers Association and the True Drivers Union.

The rise is “due to an increase in petroleum products, spare parts, and the government’s bad economic management,” according to unions.

“Because electricity and water tariffs, spare part prices, food prices, and pure water prices have all increased, we have no choice but to raise our charges.”

According to the unions, they are unable to make enough money to feed their families and pay off loans owing to the aforementioned problems.

As a result, the transportation unions requested state assistance.

“As previously said, we are inviting the general people to work with us on our new fares, which will be implemented on September 21, 2022,” the statement continued.

Transportation fares increased by 20% in May.

On May 9, 2022, when the new prices come into effect, the national average for petrol and diesel was GH9.41 and GH11.12.

At the moment, petrol costs more than GH11 per litre, while diesel costs more than GH14 per litre at most stations.
