Kasoa-Walantu residents lament over exposure of liquid waste at Community Polyclinic

Residents of Kasoa-Walantu in the Awutu Senya East constituency laments over the exposure of liquid waste from the Polyclinic in the community.

According to them, the waste comprises of urine, toilet and liquid waste from wounds and the delivery ward, which tends as huge danger to their health .

“From the beginning, we didn’t know the source of the unpleasant scent in the community until we discovered it’s from the Polyclinic. Even though they preach about health safety, they don’t care about our well-being, ” a trader said.

Supporting the unfortunate situation, other traders joined to voice out that, the scent from the liquid waste poses a lot of challenge to their business since customers find it difficult to cope with it hence, a reduction in sales.

“Who would like to buy from such a place, it’s a shame we don’t have options but to continue selling around here. Because, they work at a Government hospital, they think their profession is superior than others,” they added.
Concerning the liquid waste, the residents also revealed that, the situation get out of hand any time is rains because, they are exposed to a lot of danger.

“We can’t bear it when it rains, without being careful one can hurt himself because, anytime it rains, we see many needles from the Polyclinic in the community. Shouldn’t they dispose such things properly?” they said.

Speaking to the media, One seamstress made an account of how with an amount of GHS 14,000, managed to curb the waste, which runs just in front of her shop since she couldn’t cope with the unliking scent and unpleasant things she keep seeing from the liquid waste.

“I laid a GHS 14,000 pipe line to help manage the waste. No one added a penny, even MP’s, Assembly men and Environmental services came around but no one appreciated what I did. They still come to witness the unfavorable situation day after day yet, nothing has been done” she said.

“This is not our time reporting such incident. Countless of media have been here yet, it seems our voices can’t be heard” traders supported.
However, they again plead with the leaders to fix this long time menace because, it is heartbreaking.
