The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association said its members in Bawku, in the Upper East area, may leave their jobs out of fear for their lives.

The current security situation in Bawku, according to the nurses, is not favorable for working.

This comes on the heels of the recent crisis in Bawku, which occurred on Monday and cost the lives of at least seven people.

Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, pleaded for a cease-fire on an Accra-based radio station.

She urged all parties involved to lay down their guns in order to guarantee that healthcare service in the region is not jeopardized.

“All that is happening in Bawku is a tremendous source of anxiety to us. It is something over which we have no control. So all we want is that the two sides lay down their guns in order to maintain peace in Bawku. According to comments from our employees, they are unable to report to work since their safety cannot be guaranteed,” she bemoaned.
