The Ashanti Regional executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have extended an invitation to a female aspirant who was caught on camera spraying money on delegates and other party members during the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 in the Ejura Sekyere Odumasi Constituency.
Juliana Kinang-Wassan, a parliamentary candidate in the recently ended party elections, attracted a large crowd of delegates when she arrived at the voting center, showering them with cash. However, she arrived later in the day after the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Muhammad Bawa Brimah, and the other three contenders had already cast their ballots and taken their seats.
The currency notes she distributed ranged from as little as five cedi notes to as much as a hundred cedi notes, which were seen flying from her hands. When questioned by journalists about the violation of electoral rules by distributing money at the polling center to influence votes, Juliana claimed that she decided to share the cash when she unexpectedly discovered a large bundle of money on top of her car.
The party considers Juliana’s explanation unconvincing and expects her to provide a proper explanation. Sources within the party’s regional executives, have revealed that the young lady who lost the election will face disciplinary action by the party.
