The first case of flurona, a rare combination of two illnesses, influenza and coronavirus, has been reported in Israel.
According to local reports, the patient was a young pregnant lady who was admitted to the hospital despite the fact that her symptoms were minor.
“As soon as she came, she was diagnosed with the flu and coronavirus,” said Arnon Vizhnitser, director of the gynaecology department at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.
Both tests came back positive, even after we double-checked,” he told Hamodia, a local newspaper.
They’re both viral diseases that cause trouble breathing because they assault the upper respiratory tract,” Prof Vizhnitser disclosed.
The Israeli health ministry said it was investigating the case to see if the combination of the two illnesses may result in a more serious sickness.
The woman is likely to be discharged on Thursday.
While she is the first documented case to be diagnosed with both diseases simultaneously, doctors believe there are more cases in the country.
We are seeing more and more pregnant women with the flu. It is definitely a great challenge dealing with a woman who comes in with a fever at childbirth,” said Prof Vizhnitser.
This is especially true when you don’t know if it’s Covid or the flu, so you refer to both interchangeably.”The majority of the sickness is respiratory.”
According to The Times of Israel, Israel began administering the fourth vaccination injection to people with impaired immune systems on Friday in order to stop the spread of the Omicron variety.
