A very sad event occurred at the T&A Stadium in Tarkwa, resulting in the loss of life of an employee from a company hired by the Goldfields Ghana Foundation. The contractor, whose identity is unknown, was working on the renovation and upgrade of the stadium, which is being funded by Gold Fields Ghana.
The CEO of Gold Fields, Martin Preece, shared an official statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident. The statement said, “We are devastated to report that an employee from the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has passed away due to injuries sustained in a fall from heights incident.”
Preece went on to explain, “The contractor was actively working on the T&A Stadium renovation and upgrade project in Tarkwa, which is being funded by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation to benefit our Tarkwa host communities.”
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. Our team members from Gold Fields in Ghana are on site to provide support and assistance in dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy.
All works at the T&A Stadium has been suspended until the investigations are complete.”
The statement highlighted that counseling services are being offered to the family and colleagues of the deceased employee. The statement added, “During this difficult time, we request that you keep the family and friends of our departed colleague in your thoughts and prayers.”
