The Central Regional Office of the National Road and Safety Authority held sakeholders meeting at the Effutu Municipal Assembly in Winneba on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 under the theme; The Role of Stakeholders in Operationalizing the Authority’s Mandate.
The main purpose of the meeting is to engage and brief stakeholders on the new mandate of the Authority after transitioning from a Commission in 2019. The meeting is also occasioned by the fact that, Central Region now contributes to about 10.10% of road clashes in Ghana.
The new regulations are to ensure that road accidents are totally reduced on the Kasoa-Winneba Road and Ghana as a whole.
Head of Regulation, Inspection and Compliance Directorate of the National Road and Safety Authority, Mr. Kwame Koduah Atuahene in his briefing charged all stakeholders to play their role to ensure that road accidents in the region specifically Winneba Highway is addressed.
Head of the Central Regional Office of the National Roads and Safety Authority, Linda Afortey Annang who was also present at the gathering also disclosed that a total of 113 people have died though road accident from January to June in 2021 as compared to 136 deaths recorded in the first half of the year 2020 in the Central region.
Speaking on how to curb road clash incidents in the region, Miss Linda Afortey describes the region’s current standing not too good and neither too bad, however, all the indicators are in the rise of making the situation a little scary.
She urged all road users including drivers, passengers and pedestrians to ensure their safety while using the road.
This is as result of a gory accident which occured at Gomoa Mampong in the Gomoa West District in the early morning of Sunday August 22,2021 of which 10 passengers including a seven months old pregnant woman died after two buses collided.
