The Paramount chief of Oguaa Traditional Council Osaberima Kwesi Atta (ll) urge all traditional authorities and heads of departments within the traditional area to rise up and work collectively to tackle indiscipline among of the residents in the area since it is taking over the city.
He said the residents in the community live a careless life as if there is no law governing them in the community.
He also pointed out how the residents pay less attention to the Covid-19 protocols ranging from social distancing to wearing of nose masks which is mandatory in the Country.
“The worst part of it is when somebody flaunts the protocols and get the virus, how can the third party protect himself” he said.
He however urged all traditional authorities and heads of departments to rise and enforce the mandatory wear of nose masks to save our lives.
Osaberima Kwesi Atta (II) also lamented on how the people of Cape Coast are dying prematurely out of the use of pragyia in the metropolis.
He recounted how a breast feeding mother lost her baby when she was in the Pragya and the baby fell out to death.
“We can’t sit for the cape coasters to just die. Just recently, a woman delivered safetly and instead of her picking a taxi, she chose pragyia and unfortunately, the baby fell and died at a spot” he said.
Osaberima Kwesi Atta (ll) then called on all law enforcement agencies to enforce regulations on the use of pragyia to reduce rapid road accidents in the district.
Nana revealed this at Emintsimadze palace when he met all traditional authorities and heads of departments and to discuss the development of Cape Coast since Oguaa Fetu Festival was not celebrated due to the pandemic to get the opportunity to emphasize on that issue of importance.
Meanwhile, the Cape Coast North Member of Parliament, Hon. Kweku Ricketts Hagan made mention of unemployment as a key factor, which has led most of the youth to engage in the pragyia business.
He said, it is about time government create more jobs in the country to prevent most of the youth to engage in the pragyia business.
” Unemployment has made many youth wanted with the pragyia businesses. If there are more jobs in the country, the use of pragyia will be reduced” he said.
He also expressed worry about how the underage between the ages of 10 and 13 years, who are supposed to be in school also engage themselves in the business.
He however urged all traditional authorities, heads of departments, stakeholders and every individual to strive hard and curb the menace to reduce road accidents in the area.
