A Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) report revealed the grim statistics of road accidents from January through June 2023, where a total of 1,086 individuals lost their lives. This number shows a decrease compared to the previous year, as in 2022, 1,300 people died during the same time frame.
The study period also recorded a significant number of injuries, with 7,807 individuals suffering from road traffic crashes. This figure was slightly lower than the previous year’s count, which saw 8,007 people injured from January to June 2022.
The report provided specific details on the types of incidents. Pedestrians were involved in 1,205 accidents during this period, showing a decrease from the 1,356 incidents recorded in 2022. Likewise, there were 11,763 collisions involving automobiles, which was lower than the 13,248 collisions reported in the previous year.
Furthermore, the report highlighted that a total of 6,904 cases were recorded from January through June 2023. This number was down from the 7,687 cases reported during the same period in 2022.
